The purpose of this Vekeo event was for State Senator Aument to touch base on items of interest with his constituents. The State Senator spoke first about budget negotiations currently in process. The public pension liability is currently crippling the government and taxpayers. There are also adverse impacts to education funding. Changes must be enacted to the pension system and education funding. The State Senate will propose a pension system reform program by modernizing the system and shielding the funds from political risk. There was much discussion about property taxes and State Senator stated there are many efforts in place to address this, including changing how schools are funded, changing how property taxes are assessed, and eliminating property taxes, but raising other taxes.
