Douglas County Colorado hosted this Access Live event to discuss the Douglas County Mental Health Initiative. County Commissioners and Initiative Coordinator Laura Ciancone discussed the proposals related to mental health included in the county’s budget, including a new crisis stabilization walk-in center and increased funding to expand care available for youth and families. Participants had questions concerning resources for patients and family members/caregivers, the demand for such services in the county, the role of the county within the healthcare sector, progression of care, funding, police presence in the initiative, and suicide prevention. Hosts also acknowledged the specific need for veteran mental health programs and access to care. Other topics of discussion included privacy, accessibility and convenience of care, and how to identify signs of declining mental health.
