AARP New Mexico held this event to provide information to members on how to recognize and prevent financial fraud and romance scams. Amy Nofziger, Victim Support Director for the AARP Fraud Watch Network, joined this call to provide an overview of how “sweetheart scammers” target those on online dating sites, often times after a natural disaster such as the recent earthquakes in Turkey. Other topics of discussion included what information to refuse over the phone, how to utilize technology to recognize potential threats, and how to help those who have fallen victim to scams.
