The Vekeo event was with AARP Minnesota Fraud Watch Network. The call featured AARP Minnesota fraud educator Jay Haapala, as well as Katie Behrens and Marit Peterson from the Minnesota Elder Justice Center. The topic of conversation was on how to protect yourself and loved ones from the latest scams. The panelists discussed identity theft, cyber-security, credit card liability, and financial exploitation. People were informed how to be proactive regarding identity protection. Callers were also notified that very rarely the IRS would call to inform of owed back taxes. Scammers often pretend to be the IRS in order to get sensitive information or receive payments.
