AARP Maryland hosted this Access Live Event along with the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association and the National Retired Teachers Association to assist parents and caregivers juggling distance learning and family well-being during the Coronavirus pandemic. This event featured: Dr. Jennifer Goetz, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine; Elise Jordan, Retired Special Education Teacher; Nancy Lewis, Retired Math Teacher; and Alice Willingham, Retired English Teacher. They discussed activities to engage teenagers and keep their skills sharp, expense management and other life skills for high school students, online learning resources, attending to mental health needs, the health and safety guidelines around parties/friends, arts enrichment, and distance learning for children with special needs. Callers asked questions regarding how the pandemic is affecting teens, the safety of high school student joining protests, and assisting students who are behind during the summer.
