AARP Alaska hosted this live, interactive event to discuss issues surrounding wills, trusts, healthcare directives, and power of attorney. Ken Osterkamp, State Director of AARP Alaska, was joined by special guest speaker Ilona Bessenyey, Elder Care Attorney for law firm Bessenyey & Van Tuyn, LLC. Guest Speaker Ilona was able to describe the difference between a conservatorship and a guardianship. She shared that both are court proceedings that are necessary when someone has not named a person to make decisions for them when they are not able to do so. She also shared that conservatorship mainly addresses the control of finances. Participants were able to ask questions live on the call and addressed issues such as power of attorney, creating a will, and revocable trusts.
